South Korea sells an estimated 60,000 iPhones on launch day

Unlike China Unicom and the 5,000 iPhones they sold during the launch weekend things in South Korea seem to have been a little better. The South Korean carrier is KT Corporation and they have sold an estimated 60,000 iPhones on their launch day.

The interesting part here is that it was also pointed out that;

“In spite of the fact that the Korean market offers one of the most advanced set of mobile products and services in the world, smartphones only represent about 1% of the total mobile market,”

And furthermore, executives at KT Corporation also noted that they believe the iPhone coming to South Korea could be a turning point for smartphones in general. Interesting because many would say that same thing happened here in the US when the iPhone was originally released a few years back.
