Police Scanner App Review

Police Scanner App Review

Have you ever been patiently waiting at a light when a brigade of different emergency vehicles fly by. And you couldn’t help but wonder where they were headed? Well you can always buy a CB radio and have it installed in your car to tune in on the Police stations calls. Or you can choose the high tech route and transform your iPhone into a CB radio using the Police Scanner app from Juicy Development LLC.

Police Scanner is an app that allows anyone to listen in on transmissions of Police stations. Now obviously, the app doesn’t transform your phone into a radio receiving device. Instead, it connects your device to a live feed of hundreds of stations around the world. The app currently operates in two countries, U.S. and Canada, offering up about 1,500 stations to tune into to. To find a station, you start with a broad search area like state, then narrow it down to county, city and eventually a specific group. Or you can tap the “Near Me” page to see a preformed list of the local channels you can listen in on.

The app has a play and pause button, so you can silence your device if need be. You’ll need internet connectivity for all of the radio stations, so perhaps using this app on the road isn’t the best idea. It’s more for those people who make a hobby out of listening to radio stations, but can’t afford a CB radio.

The sound quality is where this app really shines. I was surprised by the clarity of the majority of the stations I listened to. The graphics behind this app aren’t anything special, but they make for an easy to use interface. All in all, I can see how this app could be fun and good to pass time. At $2.99 it could be considered a little expensive, but compared to similar apps it seems to be priced about right.

Verdict: 4/5 Stars

The settings in Settings mostly go unnoticed, but Police Scanner has a setting there that allows you to adjust the Near Me distance as well. It is not as good as Emergency Radio's ability to do it without leaving the app, but it is there, and can be anything you set it to. Just thought I'd point that out.torrents search
