iPhone 3.1.3 reportedly causing battery, playlist syncing issues

In my case, I generally hold off on updating my iPhone due to jailbreaking reasons, but at the same time I am often happy after reading reports such as these. It seems that (at least for some users) iPhone OS 3.1.3 has been causing some issues. So far the complaints are showing up in the usual places, mostly in support forums. But what we are seeing is that users are complaining about battery life and playlist sync issues.

According to the details so far, the battery issues are suggesting that the iPhones are running hot, well hotter than normal and that the battery status indicator has been jumping around widely. That is not necessarily saying the battery life has gotten worse, just that it is not being accurately reported. But at the same time, there has also been some reports of users claiming that they are now seeing lost hours in terms of battery life.

The other issue — playlist synching does not seem to be as drastic as the battery. Still if you use playlists and cannot sync them properly than it is something you most likely want addressed and fixed. So far, it seems that the playlist sync issue is a little more specific and deals (for the most part) with smart playlists that have multiple criteria.

As of now, neither issue has been addresses by Apple which means no fix yet. But in the meantime, if you are experiencing playlist sync issues — a temporary fix may be to reduce the criteria down to one per playlist.

I thought BOTH these issues were on the list of things fixed with this version. So all they did was make it worse? I’m glad I haven’t upgraded yet!

Yupp, battery issues here since I got 3.1.3

I have had 3.1.3 on my 3G since the day after release and I haven't noticed any battery – indicator or otherwise – issues. I haven't noticed it improving either, mind.

I have aweful battery life. It's not that it's dead it seems as though it's not being reported correctly. I watch 20 minutes of video and the phone shuts down. It takes forever to start up and when it comes back it's reporting I have full battery life. Then it shuts down, says I'm out of battery. I wait 20 minutes start it up and it works fine.

Last night I charged my phone to 100% and woke up with it being 89%. I didn't have anything running and it was in flight mode, same as I always do when I go to bed. Usually the battery is at 99% or 100% when I wake up, so I was very surprised by the massive drop last night.

It seems like this is beginning to become a recurring theme with the latest apple products, the reliability has become second to developing the aesthetics. I was just reading an interesting article on a similar theme here

I wonder if the iPad will suffer a similar fate when it arrives soon?

This update was quite worthless. IMO it was nothing but another way to mess with the jailbroken crowd. I'm happy with 3.1.2 and it will stay that way until I get a 4G. And if the 4G doesn't multitask I'm leaving Apple.
