Stone Skipper Game Review

There’s nothing more relaxing than tossing a smooth stone onto a flat lake and watching it bounce across the surface as if defying gravity. People have always been fascinated by the process and it’s no wonder why. Chances are, barely anyone can pass up the opportunity to do so when presented. The only problem is I’m rarely ever near a lake with a flat stone, and flinging rocks into my pool isn’t exactly a great substitution. So, the next best thing is the Stone Skipper app, by Burnley Media.
The Stone Skipper game has a simple premise, skip a stone across a lake as far as you can. You play the role of a delinquent looking child with a canine sidekick whom apparently have nothing better to do but throw rocks. You control your misfits throwing arm via the accelerometer. You need to “flick” your wrist in one fluid motion to send the rock flying. The first obvious objection users might have is,”What happens if I let go?” Most of us love our devices to much to even risk sending them plunging into the nearest wall. Luckily, I didn’t have any problems. However, I wasn’t too comfortable taking the risk in the first place.
The interface and graphics for this game are fairly well done. The developers spent a lot of time on the cartoon style look, but they should have devoted more time to the overall game play. There’s no targets to hit, no challenges just throwing to see your best distance. I would have liked to see a few mini games to play at the very least.
All in all, I’ll say that Stone Skipper is a very basic form of entertainment. It certainly won’t become your favorite game or even a runner up. You may find yourself turning to it for a few minutes of entertainment. But other than that, I would save the $.99!
