Street Fighter IV Ready to Kick Down App Store’s Door

Hold that thought for a moment would you?  Street Fighter on the iPhone.  For many gamers, the Street Fighter franchise conjures up images of arcade cabinets with a stubby joystick and a series of buttons with which complex moves are executed.  The iPhone however, conjures images of touchscreens and no buttons whatsoever!  So how are Capcom going to bring the two together?

According to IGN, who broke the first set of images, Street Fighter IV will be coming to the iPhone in March, and a considerable amount of care and attention has been spent getting the control method right before moving forward.  If you’re thinking this will be a cut down ‘mobile’ version of the game, think again, as not only are Capcom planning to add all your favourite classic and new characters, but there will be all the special moves including Ultras with which to pummel your opponent.

In addition to the regular tournament modes, there will be a Dojo Mode for learning the new control system and a Bluetooth multi-player too.

But all of this attention to detail and various fight modes will be for nothing if the control system is a stinker.  In all honesty, fighting using a pad for your console can be difficult, so a virtual joystick and from the pictures, a collection of four buttons – marked P, K, S and SP – seems even more unwieldy.  Saying this, we want to be surprised by Street Fighter IV and look forward to giving it a workout when it arrives.
