Today, zoomMediaPlus have unveiled the zoomIt, a memory card reader which plugs into your iPhone’s 30-pin connector to allow viewing and sharing of all the files stored on it. The adapter works in conjunction with the zoomIt app, and can be used on both the iPhone and iPod Touch, although they will need to have version 3.0 of the iPhone OS.
With the tiny dock plugged in, you can view any of the files currently supported by OS 3.0, which includes various video, audio and document file types, transfer them to your iPhone or share them through social networking sites or email. The transfer works both ways too, as some of the stored content on your device can be saved to a memory card, then shared with other iPhone users in the same way.
In the press release, it’s noted that ‘protected content’ playback will be added in a future app update, so expect some files to have problems until this time. The zoomIt accepts only SD memory cards, so if your camera uses such a storage solution, then this will be a great way to back up your holiday pictures without taking a hard drive or your laptop. However, if it’s a Sony or takes another form of card, then you’re out of luck.
Seeing as Apple also forgot to include an SD card reader on the iPad, this could prove popular with that device too.
The zoomIt is up for pre-order now, with general release expected around April, at a price of $59.95, although if you’re quick you’ll get a $10 discount. If you are among the first 250 to order a zoomIt, there will be a 4GB Kingston SDHC card included to sweeten the deal even further.
