How to Create an iTunes Account in Another Country
March 10, 2010 | Andy Boxall

Your primary iTunes account is always set depending on the country you reside in, however, this can present some problems if you’re a keen iPhone app fan, as sometimes certain apps are not available in all territories. While this guide is primarily applicable to people outside of the USA, it works just as well there too.
The key problem with trying to create an account outside of your home is the issue of payment, as your credit card or PayPal account must be registered in the same place. There is however, a way around this.
Why would anyone want to do such a thing? Aside from access to free apps not available in your country, you can only redeem free app codes and vouchers inside the US store. Annoying if you have one but don’t live there! Here are some simple instructions on how to set up a foreign iTunes account.
- Open iTunes and select the iTunes Store.
- Scroll down to the base of the page and click the flag icon found in the bottom right.
- Select the country you want to create an account in, in this example, we will use the USA.
- The country-specific store page will open.
- Now, search for an app which is free. We suggest using the USA-only Lose It! app, which is a great example of why you should make an account elsewhere.
- Once you’ve found and selected your app, click the Free App button to purchase it.
- The iTunes Sign In box will appear and you want to select Create New Account.
- Click Continue when prompted and accept the Terms of Service.
- Fill in your contact details as requested, then press continue.
- Then you must provide a payment method. However, as this is a free app, at the far end there is the option of ‘None’. Select this.
- Fill in an address and click Continue.
- Wait for the confirmation email to arrive. When it does, follow the instructions and activate your new account.
- Your new App should download automatically.
Obviously you won’t be able to download anything which costs money, as you won’t have any way of paying, so this will only be of help if you’re after a free app. But as they say, the best things in life are free!

I would much rather be able to buy music from another country. This doesn't help at all. The fact that I cannot buy the music in itunes because it is not available in my country drives me to pirate. So everyone loses but me.
BobCad,
There is a way to do it and it worked for me. Follow the above steps to create a new account in the country you desire and do not enter billing info yet as mentioned above or it will take you back to the USA store. Once you have the account created by following the E-mail link, click on the song you want to buy from that country to purchase. At this point iTunes will ask you to provide your billing information. On this box you will find that the country box is already prefilled with that country's name and you can not change it. Just leave that box as is and as you enter your credit card info and when you get to the " City " box enter City, State, Zip Code and USA . The purchase will go through. I tried it and it worked for me. I hope it works for you too.

To buy music from an itunes store in a nother country, I believe an itunes gift card would work. For example, If you've set up a US itunes store account, you'd have to purchase a US itunes gift card.
The method works just fine. However, if you already have an account in your home country and this is the account that you sync your iPhone with, you will lose all apps downloaded from the US store (they will not sync and there will be a message that you don't have the right to download them). Is there a way to go around this besides having a separate iPhone for the US store???
Hi All,
I tried this from the UK and could not even get the free app – iTunes asked me for an address and then could not verify what I entered (obviously I just made one up) and would not let me create an account. Think I did everything as suggested above but no luck!
You'll need to make up an address, but it needs to be at least partly real. For example, a correct zipcode and area, but without a correct street and number. Google will be your friend here!
i cant find NONE in the list
. even i chose billing to US. help
Yeah it looks like they've removed "none" as a payment option now which means this guide no longer works
Just checked this again and it's all working fine. The 'none' payment option is all present and correct! Follow the instructions exactly as above and you'll be able to create your account. If you don't want the Lose It! application, try Bing instead. As long as it's free, it doesn't matter.
i cant download any free apps.. it says my "network connection timed out" So please help me out with this. i wanna download free apps from itune. i have created an account now so please help me out
None option disable… too bad! Any other workaround?
i'm trying to create an u.s. itunes account from my country. i've gone all the way until the "provide a payment method" page and entered a valid u.s. address. when i click on continue,i'm brought back to the same page with the message "please contact itunes support to complete this transaction." what should i do?
Thanks for this…It has been very annoying not to be able to download the international version of BBC news so that I can read news in Spanish! Now it's there on my iPhone! Much appreciated.
took me a few tries but now its working perfectly! thanx alot dude!
