Rumor resurge: Multitasking coming to iPhone OS 4.0

Multitasking on the iPhone, its a rumor that seems like it will not go away until it comes true. And recently that rumor has come forward once again, this time its coming courtesy of an Apple Insider report. According to the details;

“Apple this summer will go a long way towards silencing critics and catering to one of the most prevalent demands of its iPhone user base, when it introduces a multitasking solution through the handset’s 4.0 software update that will finally allow several third party apps to run concurrently and in the background.”

According to that same post, Apple Insider has noted that these details are coming from “people with a proven track record in predicting.” To me that seems a little less than official, but at the same time I remain hopeful.

At the moment multitasking is possible, but only for a limited few of Apple’s own apps such as the iPod app, or by those who have jailbroken. For me having multitasking is not about running tons of apps, but doing something as simple as listening to Slacker and surfing the web. Sure my battery will drain a little faster, but that is why they made chargers. Anyway, here it to hoping that OS 4.0 will bring multitasking support.

    About damn time! Is this just a software update, or is this going to be the new OS on the 4G phone?
