Jailbreaking news: Spirit jailbreak for the iPad should be coming soon

A jailbreak for the iPad is coming, though we are still unsure exactly when. This will be the Spirit jailbreak, which was demo’d by Dev-Team member MuscleNerd shortly after the iPad was originally released (see embed video below).

Anyway, we are still waiting on a release notification of Spirit, but in the meantime the Dev-Team has offered up a post detailing what those interested should do before it arrives.

“Please take the steps now to backup your SHSH blobs.  Use either Firmware Umbrella to create a local copy, or go through saurik’s server.  If you are getting an iPad 3G, it’s safest to backup your blobs using Firmware Umbrella, in case saurik’s server gets bogged down with requests.”

Additionally, if you were looking for more information regarding Spirit, here are some more bullet-points courtesy of the Dev-Team;

  • Spirit is an untethered jailbreak.
  • Spirit works on all devices.  (However, the redsn0w and PwnageTool flows will continue to work on those devices they’ve always worked on)
  • Spirit does not include a carrier unlock.  (Please don’t bug @comex about that)
  • Spirit requires your device to be activated or hacktivated

Anyone interested in jailbreaking the iPad? Personally I have been a long time jailbreaker on the iPhone and cannot imagine using a non-jailbroken iPhone at this point but am thinking at least for the time being I am not going to go the jailbreak route on my iPad.
