Browsing the App Store this weekend? Here are eight new or updated apps worth taking a closer look at if you are:
It may sound like just another entry into the seemingly endless F&F franchise, but from the screenshots, this one has a polish which really makes it stand out! A total of 35 cars are yours to win and tune, plus there is an interesting ‘Turf Wars’ mode where you must defend your own turf from attackers. Currently 50% off. $2.99/£1.79
It’s worth giving this airborne shooter a try if you haven’t played the first MiniSquadron. The app is free but if you want to play on after the initial two levels, you’ll have to pay $0.99 per six-level pack. Free
RPG Snake – The Adventure of Akua.
This is variation on the classic Snake game found on most Nokia mobile phones, but this time in the form of a 3D-isometric RPG-style game! There are 11 stages and more than 20 achievements inside. $0.99/£059
Tweak and edit audio files on your iPod or iPhone. Seemingly more for voice files than music, you’ll be able to adjsut volume, balance and stereo separation, plus employ a high or low pass filter too. $3.99/£2.39
A app for both the iPhone and iPad. SoundHound is a music recognition application which will seek out any song regardless of whether it’s a recording or your own hummed version! Get lyrics, videos and previous work information once the search is complete. A free version is also available. $4.99/£2.99
Create jigsaws from the live images caught by your iPhone’s camera! With modes for a 2×2 or 10×10 split, this will be challenging for both children and adults. $2.99/£1.79
Made for kids around kindergarten age, this is a beautifully designed application which teaches maths by injecting plenty of fun! There are five different number-driven games to play through, with great rewards for a job well done. $2.99/£1.79
