The ABC Player app for the iPad was recently updated, and is now listed as version 1.1.1004. But more important than the version number is what was added in terms of support. In this case it was the one item that was being restricted — video streaming over 3G. Of course, that was just the main update, there were a few other goodies such as;
- Landscape orientation support for all screens
- Support for the iPad’s orientation lock
- Updated player controls that are more responsive
- Improved display of parental ratings
- Numerous other bug fixes and stability enhancements
And with that, the ABC Player app for the iPad has become that much more useful for 3G equipped iPad users. As it had been, the app remains available as a free download.

I tested out the revised ABC Player app last night. The 3G streaming looked great. The other networks have a high bar to shoot for.
