This Week’s App Store Updates – 28th May 2010

Browsing the App Store this weekend?  Here are eleven new or updated apps for the iPhone and iPad worth taking a closer look at if you are:

TripAdvisor.

An update to the popular travel website’s iPhone app has seen them rebuild their Local Picks section to provide more information and better performance.  There is still access to all the reviews, plus GPS-based directions too.  Free.

BN eReader for iPad.

You’ll have a choice of more than a million titles inside the Barnes & Noble eBook store, plus a limited time offer to get a free eBook each week until the 20th June.  Free.

The Times of London.

The Times newspaper brings its own app to the iPad, but at a considerable price.  The cost covers a 28 day subscription period, after which time you’ll have to pay again.  The blurb suggests the app covers ‘the very best of The Times’ and will be multimedia enhanced.  $16.99/£9.99.

Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 2.

The sequel to the excellent Nitro Kart, this is more of the same but inside a new adventure.  There is multiplayer over Wi-Fi, 12 tracks, tilt control, and all the usual bonuses to collect as you race around.  Bit of an eye-watering price though.  $9.99/£5.99.

FryPaper.

A conversion of Stephen Fry’s technology blog over to the iPad, all done in a rather fetching way.  Free.

Koi Pond HD.

It’s Koi Pond for the iPad, and this time you’re in control!  Aside from the super-realistic fish and water, there is a pond editor so you can create your own environment for the fish.  There are 8 different breeds of fish and an ambient soundtrack.  $1.99/£1.19

FantasyMonster.

Complete control over your fantasy sports teams.  Compatible with Yahoo!, you’ll be able to see and change your football, basketball, hockey and baseball fantasy sports leagues.  $3.99/£2.39.

Pocket Heart.

Want to know how the human heart works?  This 3D application provides an insight into exactly that.  It’s primarily educational in its approach, making it most suitable for students and parents.  $1.99/£1.19.

Space Station: Frontier HD.

The real-time strategy game with some tower defense elements is on sale this weekend, so if you’ve just got your iPad and fancy some sci-fi strategy, then this should do nicely!  $1.99/£1.19.

Tweeps.

The iPhone version has been updated and is now suitable for the iPad too.  Tweeps is a Twitter management tool, not a Twitter client, so you can’t actually tweet from it.  Instead you can maintain everything from your followers to your profile picture.  Free.

3D Camera Studio.

Like the iPhone version, 3D Camera Studio lets you make actual 3D images, but this time display them on the larger iPad screen!  There are masses of different options for creating some really special photos.  $4.99/£2.99.
