2nd generation iPod touch users will get a free update to iOS4

The update process for iPod touch users has never been quite as easy as it is for the iPhone. Well, maybe its been just as easy to do, but not quite as free. The good news here is that Apple will be giving the next version of the OS, which has been dubbed iOS4 to iPod touch owners for free.
The catch here is that not all iPod touch users will get the update as it will only run on 2nd generation devices. Still, this sounds like good news for those that qualify. In the case of first-generation iPod touch users, what else can you say but, sorry.
In the meantime, those who are able will be able to do so as of June 21st.

Something other than Sorry should be said to those of us that own a 1st gen touch. At the very least, folder functionality should be made available to us…and maybe a real customizable desktop. If my touch could handle the last update, why in heck can't it handle this one. I used to love Apple, but now they're abandoning those of us who used to like to be early adopters. Well forget that nonsense…from now on out, I won't buy anything until the 4th iteration….I'm sick of it!
Sick of it? So much that you'll still buy it but just wait until the 4th iteration? If you really want to make a statement you need to buy something else – not Apple.
@Barry – your device is 3 years old. Get over it. Most consumer electronics have a life span of 3 years and I’m sure your iPod still works perfectly, so you really have nothing to complain about. Save up your pennies and buy a new one. And yes, I had a 1st Gen but it got stolen so I saved up and spent $399 on a 64Gb one less than a year ago. Life moves pretty fast, stay on top or it’ll kick you in the ass – and you’re about to get kicked.
after updating my itouch it seems like the games i have on my itouch does not want to load!
will home screen wallpapers and folders work on the ipod touch 2nd generation
folders yes, home wallpapers no:( i've been waiting for the update just for the wallpapers! now I have to reload all my music again

If you guys all want these new features, like folders, customizable wallpaper and all that stuff, just jail break your iPod! its twice as fast as an apple update, and gives you full %100 control of your iPod! And the best part is that IT’S FREE! for any gen, firmware of ipod touch!
that also voids the warranty and unless you know certain programming trick reloading the original software doesn't delete traces of the hack in your ipods system… soooooooo this is a very bad idea
how do you use folders?????? It comes on 2nd gen but how do u use it???
im going to but an ipod touch 8gb 2g is it true that there is no 8gb in 3g series ?? should i buy this or get something else cause i really like an itouch but do not know if 2g is any good cause i can only afford a 2g please help !!
Jailbreaking is now considered legal, thanks to the court ruling, so it shouldn't void the warranty now.
I've updated to IOS4.2.1 for my ipod touch 2nd generation already through itune, and it is free of charge. It runs perfectly.
