App Review: Fruit Ninja ($0.99)

It’s not very often that you come across an iPhone game that just blows you away, Fruit Ninja is such a game. Like many iPhone games, the beauty of Fruit Ninja comes not from its advanced concept or play style, but instead from its simplicity and originality. The purpose of the game is pretty basic: use your finger to cut as much flying fruit as you can without accidentally cutting any of the bombs.

Apart from its unique concept and simplicity, Fruit Ninja’s graphics and interface can’t be beat. To navigate to a different game type, you simply slash an on-screen piece of fruit in the menu. The game is snappy and responsive, two things that I think are a necessary component of any iPhone game, or for that matter, application in general.

In recent months, Fruit Ninja has been my “go-to iPhone game.” By this, I mean that whenever I find myself sitting somewhere with nothing to do, chances are Fruit Ninja is going to make an appearance.

“Swipe your finger across the screen to deliciously slash and splatter fruit like a true ninja warrior. Be careful of bombs – they are explosive to touch and will put a swift end to your juicy adventure!

Fruit Ninja also uses OpenFeint, so players can unlock achievements and shoot for the top of the global leaderboards while racking up OpenFeint points.

Your success will also please the wise ninja Sensei, who will accompany your journey with wise words and fun fruit facts.

Fruit Ninja is the messiest and most satisfying fruit game ever!”

For $0.99, Fruit Ninja is a steal. I’ve spent $3 or $4 on apps that I’ve only used once or twice, Fruit Ninja, however, probably gets played a good three or four times every week. If you take my advice and download this app, you won’t be disappointed!

Here’s what the critics are saying:
