iPhone 4 Launches in 17 More Countries, Almost Misses New Zealand, Does Miss South Korea.

Today marks the second launch of the iPhone 4 around the world, where 17 new countries join the original five of the USA, UK, France, Germany and Japan.  If you live in one of the following countries, you should be able to pop out and pick up an iPhone 4 from your friendly, local network operator:

  • Australia
  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Canada
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • Hong Kong
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Luxembourg
  • The Netherlands
  • Norway
  • New Zealand
  • Singapore
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland

Originally, this list also included South Korea, however they have been dropped due to, according to Apple, it was taking too long to get government approval.  Unfortunately, South Korea’s mobile comms regulator says that the iPhone 4 was never submitted for approval in the first place.  It’s still likely to reach South Korea, but not for a while.

So, has the iPhone 4 reached all the other shores safe and sound?  Not quite, as New Zealand also nearly suffered the same fate as South Korea, after receiving no information from Vodafone concerning costs or availability, the phone finally made an appearance after midday.  TUAW blogger Chris Rawson tells of his experiences in a lengthy post here.

If you’ve grabbed your iPhone 4 today, or were stumped by one of the above issues tell us all about it in the comments.  We’d also love to hear from anyone attending one of Australia’s launch parties, or if you were present at an Orange store in Switzerland, where apparently only men accompanied by girls would gain entrance, and then it was only the girls who would get coffee and croissants, leaving the poor boys to starve.  If you saw that, we really want to hear from you!

Enjoy your iPhone 4s!
