As we expected, iPhone users awaiting the next version of iOS can now plug their phones into iTunes and download away! iOS 4.1 was announced at the last Apple event along with several new iPods and the second generation Apple TV, and although no official date was given as to when it would be available, Apple’s UK site posted that it would be today, the 8th Sepetember.
Here’s what’s included according to the blurb:
- Game Center
- Send and receive friend requests.
- Invite friends to multiplayer games over the internet.
- Play multiplayer games by auto-matching with other players.
- View leader boards and achievements.
- Discover new games from friends.
- High Dynamic Range (HDR) photos on iPhone 4.
- Support for TV show rentals on iTunes.
- Ability to upload HD videos to YouTube and MobileMe over Wi-Fi on iPhone 4.
- Additional support for AVRCP supported accessories including next and previous track control.
- FaceTime calling directly from favorites.
- Bug fixes including:
- iPhone 4 proximity sensor performance.
- iPhone 3G performance.
- Nike+iPod fixes.
- Bluetooth improvements.
It’s also confirmed that Game Center does require an iPhone 4, 3GS or 2nd gen iPod touch and later to function, and that HDR photography will only be on the iPhone 4 and not the 3GS.
The download is around 308MB. Let us know how it goes!

well, I downgraded to 4.1. I hope to hell this works. I went from 3.0 to 4.0 on my 3G phone and its been nothing short of a disaster. I NEED my phone for work. I use emails, texts and the phone throughout my day, if my phone doesn't work neither do I. The 4.0 software was/is horrible. I never had issues with 3.0 OS. If this doesn't work then I am thinking of switching to a blackberry. Like I said, I can't fool around with an intermittent phone, I need something rock solid. I will report back with an update.
