Steve Jobs has launched straight into the new announcements at Apple’s special event, with iOS 4.1. The new firmware update includes the following:
- Proximity sensor, Bluetooth and iPhone 3G bugs fixed.
- High Dynamic Range photos.
- HD video upload over Wi-Fi.
- Game Center launched.
The HDR photos takes three shots together when you take a picture, with all versions available in your camera roll, but can be combined together to create a composite. There are various apps which feature HDR photography already available.
Game Center has been expected for a while and it’s a gaming social network where friends can be challenged to multiplayer games, scores compared and auto matching if your friends don’t own the same games as you.
It’s out next week as a free download for the iPhone and the iPod Touch.
The next version of iOS was also previewed at the event. iOS 4.2 will be the first major updated for the iPad, although it will also be compatible with the iPhone, and will bring folders, multitasking and everything else iOS 4 users have been enjoying for a while to the tablet. Additionally, it will add wireless printing and Airplay too. Airplay is the new name for AirTunes, the wireless streaming tool for iTunes. We’ve still got a while to wait though, as iOS 4.2 won’t be available until November.
