TomTom v1.5 to Include Navigate-to-Photo and iPhone 4 Tweaks

The next revision of TomTom’s navigation software will bring several interesting changes with it, highlighted today in an early release to the press.  Version 1.5 will feature updated versions of all their maps aside from Argentina and Chile, but it’s the other new additions which look far more intriguing.

The first is a service called Navigate-to-Photo, where you can select a picture from your iPhone’s gallery and request the app to take you straight to it, effectively turning your camera roll into an extension of your address book.  Of course, for this to operate the pictures will have to have geo-tagging information saved in them, so don’t import any old photo and expect it to work!

Secondly, TomTom v1.5 will be optimized to take advantage of the iPhone 4’s benefits, namely the Retina Display, providing sharper resolution maps and navigation images.  The app will receive a speed-boost and improved GPS reception including in areas with limited coverage.

While the iPhone 4 changes are welcome, Navigate-to-Photo looks great and could be very helpful in a number of situations, for example where finding an address is not possible, or for when you’re visiting a new place and simply want to get back to a previously spotted landmark or interesting shop.

Version 1.5 doesn’t have a release date yet, and is listed only as ‘coming soon.’
