Apple Announces iPhone 5 Event for October 4th 2011

Putting an end to months and months of endless speculation, Apple will finally announce the next generation iPhone on the 4th October 2011.  Invitations to a special event held at the Apple campus have begun circulating, and as you can see from the image, there’s no doubt at all that we’ll be seeing at least one new device.

The invite shows four familiar iPhone app icons, with the Calendar app giving the date, the Clock the time of 10.00 and the map showing the same old picture; however it’s the ’1′ notification over the Phone app which has also got tongues wagging – does this mean there will only be one new iPhone announced?

For a while now, rumors have circulated that Apple will announce both a fifth-gen iPhone and a modified iPhone 4 named the iPhone 4S.  Apple often put small hints of what’s to come in their invitations, and if it doesn’t mean anything at all; why bother putting it there?

If there’s only one iPhone mode – which is fine by us – will there also be any iPod updates announced?  What about the much-rumored Facebook iPad app?

All will be revealed in one week from today on the 4th October, at 10am Pacific time.  Who’s excited?
