My Week in Pictures iPhone App Review – Framing Good!
September 26, 2011 | Andy Boxall

My Week in Pictures is an interesting take on the current rash of ‘picture frame’ iPhone apps, where you can place various snaps into collage-style frames. The key difference here is that the app looks at all the photos you’ve taken during a calendar week, then automatically places them into a frame; creating a neat at-a-glance picture of what you’ve been doing.
The app’s main page is made up of a scrollable list of previous weeks, all with their photos in place. Each collage can be shared via email, Facebook, Tumblr or Twitter, or it can be saved separately to your iPhone’s Camera Roll too. There’s a choice of three different frame layouts and the option of a white or black frame, plus you can set a weekly reminder to let you know your latest photo collage is ready.
My Week in Pictures is easy to use, with just a few buttons to think about, plus it’s nicely customizable too. For example, if you don’t like the app’s automatic selection of pictures, you can replace an image with another from the same week, or remove it completely and add some explanatory text instead. Individual images can also be zoomed in and out, using pinch-to-zoom, and moved around with a drag of your finger.
It’s easy to create a collage you’re happy with, and the range of options when it comes to sharing the completed image makes it perfect for those who want to share recent activities with friends and family, without bombarding them with massive albums-worth of pictures. That said, I’d have preferred not to provide such extensive access to my Twitter account (read and post tweets, view follower list, update profile and follow new people), while the Facebook sharing seemed to only want the basics.
Sending a collection by email is much simpler, with the image already attached to a message when you chose that option. When it arrived, the collage was sized around 730 pixels square, making it big enough to see clearly, but not big enough to be used as a background image or printed out for use as anything other than a regular photo-picture sized image.
I love My Week in Pictures’ concept, and found it particularly helpful for updating my Tumblr blog, with the images perfectly complimenting my usual Instagram posts. I can also see plenty of uses for the family, and for holiday makers, allowing them all to provide weekly updates online with the minimum of hassle.
I did encounter one or two crashes though, with one so severe I had to soft-reset my iPhone 4 to get it back up and running. Also, although I understand it goes against the application’s main function, I’d have liked the chance to add another picture from a different week to a collage, as sometimes the weekly split would stop me from including a relevant picture.
My Week in Pictures costs $0.99/£0.69 and if you’re a keen photo sharer, I’d highly recommend it.
