Boomslank iPhone 4 Case Review

If you’re a fan of anime and anime-style art, then you need to take a look at Boomslank, a growing design company who create t-shirts featuring their own anime artwork.  In addition to their range of t-shirts, Boomslank has recently released a series of iPhone cases, one of which we’re going to look at here.

The company has teamed up with well-known mobile accessory manufacturer Case-mate, therefore ensuring that the case itself is of a high enough quality to do the designs justice.  The case is the same style as Case-mate use for their own customizable range, with a shaped camera lens cutout and open top and bottom sections.

Most come in white, with two exceptions in a light grey, and the artwork is primarily in striking monochrome with the occasional splash of color.  There are eleven different designs to choose from at the moment, and we chose the Zero Frame case to review.

The packaging is Case-mate’s own and comes complete with a screen protector, applicator and screen cleaner.  The case itself is a hard shell and clips on to your iPhone using a lip over the antenna edge, just like Case-mate’s own Barely There model or many others on the market such as Gear4′s Angry Birds cases.

The top and bottom of the phone are completely exposed, so there won’t be any problem with connecting headphones or the 30-pin connector, while there is a single, long cutout for the mute switch and volume controls.  This means the Boomslank iPhone cases are suitable for the GSM iPhone 4, the CDMA iPhone 4 and the new iPhone 4S.  The company also have models for the iPod Touch and the iPhone 3G/3GS.

While the case is fairly ordinary, the artwork is anything but ordinary!  Each design is beautifully recreated on the rear panel, and it’s hidden away under a glossy coating so there shouldn’t be any concerns about wear and tear destroying the image.  The embossed Case-mate logo is a little unfortunate, but it’s only visible on close inspection.

The fit is perfect, and I had no trouble attaching it to my phone even with a front and rear protector in place, however there isn’t any lay-on-the-table protection, so you’ll have to be careful if you want to show off the picture!  Like most hard shell cases there is an increase in grip, and the covered corners should help protect the phone in the event of a fall, but don’t expect too much additional protection from such a simple case.

The Zero Frame model you see here costs $35 (plus shipping), which is the same as Case-mate’s own custom model, and is good value considering the quality of the case itself and the brilliant artwork adorning the rear.  If you’re a fan of anime, or just of cool, individual artwork, then do take a look at Boomslank’s iPhone cases; they come highly recommended!
